Vizcaya
Vizcaya is a property development that radiates a class of its own among Longboat Key residences for sale. This condominium was developed in 1997‒1998 in a prime Gulf-front location on the block of 2399 Gulf of Mexico Drive on the southern part of the island.
Its 9-acre site parcel was formerly occupied by Far Horizons, a popular hotel resort in the 1970s that holds a special place in many Longboat old-timers’ hearts. The architectural design of the Vizcaya was rendered in the Mediterranean Revival style inspired by the works of the famed early twentieth-century architect Addison Mizner. The property was developed with three buildings masterfully oriented in a “V” layout that appears to reach out to embrace its 500-foot private beach.
The Vizcaya offers many delightful amenities aside from its beach-based delights. Basking amidst verdant landscaping with a lagoon and fountain accent, the community provides a well-furnished clubhouse with a health spa and a fully equipped fitness center. Toward the gulf front between the buildings, there’s a resort-style swimming pool with complete deck furnishings and a charming cascade.
Exclusivity, too, was one of the guideposts of the development, with the Vizcaya having just 31 residences. The prime selection among these residences is the six with gulf-side terraces built with a private pool each.
Vizcaya residences are designed with floor areas of between 2,900 square feet and over 5,000 square feet. These properties, however, are rarely available in the market, given their captivating features that could bind their owners to hold on to their homes.
In 2016, only two residences moved on the market, one with a tag price of $2.35 million and the other just a shade below the $2 million mark. Both sold in June, these residences have similar floor areas of 2,961 square feet designed with two bedrooms and exude the distinctive class of the Vizcaya condominium.
