Hideaway Bay - Longboat Key

Hideaway Bay – Longboat Key

To call Hideaway Bay one of the best-kept secrets of Longboat Key won’t be an exaggeration. Formerly known as Wake Island, this small community is tucked in a northeastern nook of Longboat Key off Millar Bay and opposite the three islands of Sister Keys.

Hideaway Bay is accessible from Gulf of Mexico Drive only via General Harris Street. This lone access road links to Hideaway Bay Drive, a long and winding causeway lined by buffers of dense mangroves and palm trees leading into the community.

A Longboat Key old-timer and developer, Herb Field, and his son, Tim, take credit for the development of Hideaway Bay. Other projects that Herb initiated on the island include the Colony Beach Resort and the Buccaneer (now Harbour Villa Club).

It was only till 1980 that the first property was sold in this community.
